Article by Mayor Bill Brown

In my basics article(which I link at the bottom of my post), I gave a general outline of what to do in CityVille and I mentioned the two ways you receive money and I can bet you are all thinking that you have to fill your town with houses and businesses to make the most money. That is the wrong way to make a lot of money. Sure you will get some money but it will take a lot of energy and there are better ways to do it.

Allow me to explain by example. As most of us would do at the start is to place the business side by side on the main street, mirroring real life. Let say you place 3 business side by side and for simplicity sake let us say that each business pays 300 CityVille coins and that is 900 CityVille coins every time. Collecting CityVille coins from businesses will always cost 1 energy per business. So we need to find a way of increasing the output of businesses and lowering the energy cost. That is where CityVille decorations come in.

You probably overlooked CityVille decorations as fluff that you waste CityVille coins on to make your city nicer looking, but they play a very important part in the success of a city because CityVille decorations do one very important thing and that is CityVille decorations give a payout bonus to houses and businesses. CityVille decorations range in costs from 50 gold up to 4000 gold in the early levels so it can be an expensive investments but they certainly are a worthwhile investments and with different CityVille decorations giving different payouts but more expensive doesn’t mean more payout so it pays to take your time and work out placement. CityVille decorations apply their bonus to any business in an area around them, you will see the area covered when you place a decoration.

So with that in mind you could put 2 businesses down and surround them with CityVille decorations to get a payout bonus. With a little bit of CityVille coins spent on decorations and some layout changes you can have each business with a bonus over 70% that easily covers the lack of a third business, because the burger joint will get 76% extra, so instead of 300 CityVille coins, it will be 528 CityVille coins and the coffee shop has 74% extra which will come to 522 CityVille coins, so together the 2 businesses will get 1050.

That doesn’t sound like much of an increase, but it will come in faster because there is less businesses in your town, it will take less goods and less energy to collect. CityVille decorations can affect more than one building at a time, so with clever placing you only need to buy one set of expensive CityVille decorations to cover multiple businesses. CityVille decorations also affect houses but as they give less money than businesses there is no real benefit to spending lots on CityVille decorations but a few CityVille decorations covering multiple houses wouldn’t be a waste of CityVille coins.

What I have just shown you is the early stage of this technique over on the official forums somebody has mentioned they get +231% ! “Normal Pool Hall output: 420 CityVille coins Output with bonus: 1391 CityVille coins 1 energy = 1391 CityVille coins” is what the user “Morlanjo” says he gets, which is pretty impressive. Let me explain how he does it.

He chose a business that will get him most money and surrounded it with profit boosting CityVille decorations. Many of us will only have the Arboretum as our big bonus decoration it offers +16% and costs 4,000 CityVille coins which is only 4 collections of the pool hall. He has 11 of them, which is a cost of 44000 which seems a lot, but after 32 collections you are back even again. In the image you can see he uses Bronze Statue (+2%) which has a cost of 3000 CityVille coins, they only give 2% but have a large radius and are one of the few items that are 2 long and 1 wide and also uses the cheap Flower Patch (+1%) to fill gaps around the place. The gaps are there because you need to connect the business to the road, and so he has a pavement going from road to business you can see it between the bronze statues.

While it is impressive it is the not the most efficient way to do it. A CityVille player Michael A. Coan (a.k.a. macoan) made layout charts for CityVille decorations. For businesses that take up a 4×4 space, the layout is here, open it up and save it to your computer. it gets a bonus of 251% but costs over 113000 CityVille coins to build! So it is not a quick solution but is something to build up to. He recommends a cinema as it is the highest raw coin output.

A couple of things to note there is a couple of great CityVille decorations that your friends can send you and you can use for free so they are a good way to go and cheap too especially at the start.
